“Sarah,” “Miriam,” and “Hannah” for Women of Valor, texts by Ellen Frankel, music by Andrea Clearfield, cantata commissioned by the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony. World premiere in May 2000, performed under the direction of conductor Noreen Green, at UCLA. Available on CD by Los Angeles Jewish Symphony.

 

“The Golem Psalms,” commissioned Alan Harler, conductor of the Mendelssohn Club, libretto by Ellen Frankel, music composed by Andrea Clearfield. World premiere at the  University of Pennsylvania,  performed by the Mendelssohn Club and the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Alan Harler, with Sanford Sylvan as baritone soloist, May 2006. Work also performed at Haverford College by the Bryn Mawr/Haverford choir and orchestra (April 2007); by the Indiana University Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, the Conductor’s Orchestra, and soloist, baritone Kenneth Pereira, under conductor John Leonard (February 2009); and by the Temple University Symphony Orchestra and Combined Choirs, conducted by Alan Harler, with Sanford Sylvan as baritone soloist (March 2010).

Slaying the Dragon, two-act opera, commissioned by Andrew Kurtz, artistic director of the Center City Opera Theater, libretto by Ellen Frankel, music composed by Michael Ching. World premiere at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia and the Prince Theater, June 2012.

 

Hagar,” new movement for “Women of Valor Suite,” libretto by Ellen Frankel, music composed by Andrea Clearfield; adapted from Andrea Clearfield’s Women of Valor cantata. Work commissioned by the Women’s Sacred Music Project.  Performances of “Women of Valor Suite,” premiered at the Daylesford Abbey, Paoli, PA; and the Germantown Jewish Centre, Philadelphia, September 2011. Available on MetamorphosisHigdon, Clearfield, and Primosch, on the Innova label.

"The Esther Diaries." Based on biblical book of Esther. Commissioned by soprano Sharon Azrieli. Music by Haralabos Stafylakis. World premiere in Montreal, featuring Sharon Azrieli, soprano, McGill Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Boris Brott. Performed at La Maison Symphonique, June 2014.

 

The Triangle Fire, one act chamber opera, with music by Leonard Lehrman, libretto by Ellen Frankel. Premiered at the American Labor Museum, Haledon, NJ, September 2016; and the Puffin Cultural Forum, Teaneck, NJ, September 2016. In cooperation with the New Jersey Solidarity Singers and the Metropolitan Chorus. Conducted by Leonard Lehrman. Encore performances scheduled at the Long Beach Library and the Community Church of New York in March 2017.

 

"Mothers of Moses," chamber piece for three women's voices and two instruments, commissioned by the Women's Sacred Music Project. Music by Rene Orth, libretto by Ellen Frankel. Premiered at Rosemont College, Rosemont, PA, October 2016. Performed in April 2017 as part of an interfaith community seder at the Germantown Jewish Centre in Philadelphia.
